In this design challenge, my design lab and another ninth grade design lab decided to pair up and create a mural for the school. The needs for this challenge was to create art work around the school and make it stand out. Our inspiration came from watching a documentary on this artist called Banksy, who was a street artist in New York.
Banksy Art
The challenge was for us to get into group of 2-4 people and come up with a meaningful painting. But the hardest part was to have all the art pieces be combined and have aspects in each other. After, coming up with a rough draft of my groups and I paining we started to create our master piece. The painting we were doing was of a girl and half of her face was how she looks normally and the other side was how the world wants women to look like. As you can see in the photo, half of her face has pail skin, bushy eyebrows, and regular sized lips. On the other side of her face she has tan skin, on fleek eyebrow and big lips with a dark lip stick. The meaning of the photo always makes me think whenever I see it that this is how the world views women, this is how they want them to look. But in all reality none of them are perfect, like this girl in the photo she is masking her true self with makeup and other things just to please everyone else, but is she truly pleasing herself.
In the end of this challenge, I have defiantly grown as a design and have really connected with my peers on a personal level. I feel that in the end of the challenge the mural became a great aspect of adding that "pop" of color to our school and have a great art aspect to it too. I hope that everyone at D.tech will be as inspired as I was at making a school a better place for peoples art work and meaning to stand out.
